Production
Muncagota is one of Barbaresco’s classic crus, facing east-southeast on the slopes above the Tanaro and known for wines that combine aromatic brightness with a keen mineral backbone. The vineyards sit on calcareous marl and sandstone with excellent drainage, which helps Nebbiolo ripen slowly while retaining acidity and fine tannins. Produttori del Barbaresco farms these parcels traditionally, with meticulous hand work in the vines and manual harvesting to ensure that only perfectly ripe, healthy clusters are brought to the cellar. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks with an extended maceration on the skins to extract aromatics, color and structure, followed by aging as a Riserva in large Slavonian oak botti for several years. This classic, large-cask élevage respects the character of the cru, emphasizing purity of fruit, floral lift and terroir expression over overt oak influence.
