Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Brunello typically shows a deep garnet-red core with youthful brightness at the rim. The nose is refined and layered, with aromas of ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose, and Mediterranean herbs, followed by earthy nuances, spice, and a subtle savory complexity from extended aging in wood. On the palate, it is structured yet graceful, with vibrant acidity, firm but polished tannins, and excellent precision. The fruit is lifted and detailed rather than heavy, giving way to mineral notes, tobacco, and woodland character on the finish. With its balance and concentration, this wine has strong aging potential and should develop beautifully over many years.

Production
Poggio di Sotto’s vineyards are rooted in the southern part of Montalcino, where altitude, exposure, and the area’s warm days and cooler nights help Sangiovese reach full ripeness while preserving freshness and aromatic purity. The estate follows a natural, non-interventionist approach in the vineyard, including severe green harvesting to reduce yields and enhance concentration. In the cellar, fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in a mix of stainless steel and oak vats, followed by long maturation in large and medium-sized oak casks for Brunello, including a minimum of four years of ageing. The wine is bottled without filtration to preserve texture, complexity, and the authentic character of the vintage.

Food & Serving
This Brunello is a superb match for rich Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, braised beef, game, porcini risotto, and aged Pecorino. It also works wonderfully with slow-cooked lamb, roasted mushrooms, and truffle-based recipes. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the aromas and structure to fully open up.
