Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense, deep ruby-red colour that hints at its concentration and depth. The bouquet is typically elegant and layered, with ripe dark berries, cassis, plums and Mediterranean herbal notes, followed by refined touches of spice, tobacco and well-integrated oak. On the palate, Sondraia is harmonious and full-bodied, with a smooth texture, mature tannins and a balanced, lingering finish. The wine’s coastal freshness keeps it lively, while its structure suggests very good aging potential, rewarding cellaring over the next several years.

Production
Sondraia comes from the Bolgheri coastal zone in Tuscany, where sandy, well-drained soils rich in stones, clay, iron and magnesium help produce grapes of exceptional quality. The vineyards benefit from a climate shaped by sea breezes, warm summers and protection from winter winds by the surrounding hills, allowing for slow, even ripening of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Vinification begins with about ten days of temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation in oak barrels at 22°C. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak, a regimen that builds depth, polish and the supple, harmonious style that defines the finished wine.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, game, or rich Tuscan dishes such as wild boar ragù and bistecca alla fiorentina. It also works beautifully with aged cheeses and earthy mushroom-based plates. Serve at 16-18°C, and decant for 1-2 hours if possible to let the aromatics and structure fully open.
