Pietradolce’s Etna Rosso Contrada Santo Spirito 2021 is a refined expression of Nerello Mascalese from one of Mount Etna’s most celebrated crus. Combining the elegance of Burgundy-like structure with the mineral character of Sicily’s volcanic slopes, it showcases the distinctive identity of Etna’s high-altitude vineyards.

Tasting Notes
Bright ruby red with garnet nuances, the wine opens with aromas of red cherries, wild strawberries and raspberry, followed by dried flowers, Mediterranean herbs and subtle smoky, earthy notes. A delicate mineral character recalls volcanic stone, adding depth and complexity. On the palate, it is graceful yet firmly structured, with vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins and flavours of sour cherry, red plum, herbs and gentle spice. The finish is long, savoury and distinctly mineral. While approachable with decanting, the 2021 vintage has the balance and structure to develop further over the next 8–12 years under suitable cellaring conditions.

Production
The grapes come from Contrada Santo Spirito, a historic vineyard area on Mount Etna’s northern slope, where dark volcanic soils, lava terraces and significant day-to-night temperature variation create a long, gradual ripening season. Nerello Mascalese vines are cultivated at altitude and harvested by hand. Following careful selection, the grapes are traditionally vinified to preserve their freshness and site character, then matured in oak before bottling, allowing the wine’s fine tannins, floral aromas and volcanic minerality to integrate.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after a short decant of 30–60 minutes to open its floral and savoury nuances. Its bright acidity and elegant tannins make it an excellent match for grilled lamb, roasted poultry, veal, mushroom dishes and pasta with ragù. It also pairs beautifully with Sicilian specialities such as aubergine-based dishes, aged cheeses and hearty preparations featuring herbs and tomatoes.
