Description
Pierre Gelin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos de Meixvelle Monopole 2022 is a beautifully expressive Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected villages, offering the hallmark combination of depth, finesse, and site-driven character. Sourced from a true monopole and old vines, it captures both the power and elegance that have made Gevrey-Chambertin such a benchmark for serious red Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vibrant ruby hue that hints at its energy and purity. The nose unfolds with dark cherry, blackcurrant, pomegranate, and a subtle lift of gingerbread, wild herbs, and flowers.
On the palate, the wine is generous and layered, with dark fruit taking center stage, supported by fine tannins and a polished sense of balance. There is real structure here, but also the refinement and freshness that keep the wine moving gracefully through the finish. With its concentration and harmonious build, it has excellent aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next decade or more.
Production
The grapes come from 50-year-old vines in Clos de Meixvelle, a monopole site in Gevrey-Chambertin protected by stone walls that help create a distinctive microclimate. The vineyard’s Burgundy terroir and mature vines contribute to the wine’s depth and precision, while the hand harvesting and careful sorting ensure only the best fruit is selected. All clusters are fully destemmed before pressing, avoiding green notes, and the wine is then matured for more than two years in used French oak barrels before resting further in bottle.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for game birds, roast duck, beef fillet, mushroom dishes, or braised lamb, where its depth and fine tannins can shine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Domaine Pierre Gélin is a historic and well-regarded name in Gevrey-Chambertin, with a reputation built on careful vineyard work and classical Burgundian winemaking. Under Pierre-Emmanuel Gélin, the domaine continues to uphold the village’s strong reputation for structured yet elegant Pinot Noir, and the estate’s monopole holdings and old-vine parcels underline its significance in the region.
