Pico Maccario Barolo DOCG 2020 is a modern, approachable take on one of Italy’s most celebrated reds, crafted with a clear respect for Barolo tradition and a focus on finesse. Sourced from selected parcels in the heart of the Barolo zone, it reflects the character of Nebbiolo with elegance, balance, and real depth.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour and a classic Barolo perfume of violet, dried rose petal, liquorice, and red berries. With a little air, more nuanced notes begin to emerge: truffle, leather, and dried spices, adding complexity and a sense of place. The palate is structured yet refined, with present but silky tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral finish. It is already inviting in its youth, but has the backbone to age gracefully over the coming years, developing further earthy and savoury layers.

Production
The grapes come from carefully chosen parcels in the Barolo region, where Nebbiolo grows in calcareous clay soils with strong south and southwest exposure. Harvested by hand, the fruit is vinified gently to preserve its delicate aromatic profile and maintain a balanced tannic structure. After fermentation, the wine matures for around 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by additional bottle ageing before release.

Food & Serving
This Barolo is a natural match for braised beef, roast lamb, game, truffle dishes, and rich mushroom-based recipes. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for about 1–2 hours to allow the aromatics to open and the tannins to soften.
