Pico Cuadro Wild 2019 is a richly structured red from Ribera del Duero, a Spanish region renowned for producing powerful yet refined wines. Aged for 10 months in French and American oak, it combines ripe fruit and mature tannins with the freshness that gives the wine its distinctive personality. The name pays tribute to Pico Cuadro, the small mountain overlooking the estate’s vineyards and the Ribera del Duero plain.

Tasting Notes
Deep and expressive in the glass, this wine opens with inviting aromas of ripe cherries, cedarwood and warm spices. The palate is full-bodied and well structured, with concentrated fruit, firm yet polished tannins and a balanced freshness that keeps the wine lively rather than heavy. Oak adds subtle layers of spice and cedar without overshadowing the fruit. Already enjoyable in its youth, the 2019 vintage has the structure to develop further in bottle over the next several years. With proper cellaring, its fruit, oak and tannins should become increasingly integrated and complex.

Production
The wine is produced in Ribera del Duero, in northern Spain, in the prestigious area stretching between Quintanilla de Onésimo and Peñafiel. Pico Cuadro farms 19.5 hectares divided into 16 parcels across four distinct areas, allowing the estate to reflect the varied character of its terroir. The wine is matured for 10 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, adding structure and spice while preserving its freshness and fruit-driven character.

Food & Serving
Its generous body and firm, mature tannins make Pico Cuadro Wild an excellent match for grilled or roasted red meats, Iberian pork, lamb, hearty stews and mature cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature, ideally at 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, particularly when serving the wine now, as it helps open the aromas and soften the tannins.

Producer
Since 2014, Pico Cuadro has been owned by Oscar Garrote, Diego Alvarez Gorosito, Felipe Castrillo and a group of Swedish wine enthusiasts with a strong connection to Ribera del Duero. The estate’s name refers both to the Pico Cuadro mountain visible from the winery and to the window through which it can be seen. With its vineyards spread across 19.5 hectares in 16 parcels and four areas, the winery is closely rooted in the landscape and winemaking heritage of the region.
