Description

Philippe Bouzereau’s 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot is a distinguished white Burgundy made from Chardonnay. Sourced from one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s prestigious Premier Cru vineyards, it combines vibrant freshness, refined minerality and generous texture—hallmarks of this celebrated Côte de Beaune appellation. The historic Abbaye de Morgeot climat adds further distinction to this elegant expression of Burgundy.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a clear, luminous golden-yellow colour. Its expressive nose is marked by intense fruit aromas, complemented by delicate mineral nuances that bring freshness and precision. On the palate, it is harmonious and elegant, balancing lively acidity with a smooth, enveloping texture. The finish is long and refined, with the fruit and mineral character persisting beautifully. It is already approachable, although its structure and Premier Cru pedigree should allow it to develop further complexity with careful cellaring.

Production
The wine comes from the prestigious Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru terroir in Burgundy, where Chardonnay benefits from the region’s renowned limestone-rich soils and distinctive mesoclimate. Philippe Bouzereau’s approach focuses on preserving the natural character of the fruit and its origin, resulting in a poised and authentic white Burgundy. Specific harvesting and vinification details are not provided, but the finished wine shows a careful balance between freshness, texture and mineral definition.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C to allow its aromas and texture to open in the glass. Decanting is not necessary, although a short period of aeration can reveal additional nuance. Its richness and freshness make it an excellent partner for roasted or grilled fish, shellfish, poultry in a creamy sauce, lobster, and refined dishes featuring mushrooms or soft, mature cheeses.

Producer
Philippe Bouzereau is a Burgundy producer associated with the Côte de Beaune, crafting wines that express the character of their individual appellations and vineyards. This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru reflects the prestige of the region and the historic Abbaye de Morgeot climat through its combination of elegance, fruit intensity and minerality. The 2023 vintage has received 94 points from James Suckling, underlining its quality and ageing potential.
