Description
Pétrus 2005 is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic wines, drawn from the heart of Pomerol and made almost entirely from Merlot. Renowned for its rarity, depth, and remarkable precision, it is a benchmark for collectors and fine wine lovers alike, with a reputation that has only grown over time.
Tasting Notes
Deep, concentrated ruby in the glass, Pétrus 2005 shows exceptional purity and intensity. The nose is layered with ripe black cherry, plum, truffle, graphite, dark chocolate, and subtle floral nuances, unfolding with impressive complexity and elegance.
On the palate, it is dense yet incredibly refined, with velvety tannins, seamless structure, and a long, resonant finish. The 2005 vintage brings outstanding balance and freshness to the wine’s natural richness, giving it excellent aging potential and the ability to evolve beautifully for decades.
Production
Made in Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, Pétrus comes from a small, highly prized vineyard known for its unique clay-rich soils, which are especially suited to Merlot. Harvesting is typically carried out with meticulous selection, and vinification is conducted with an emphasis on preserving purity, concentration, and finesse, resulting in a wine of extraordinary depth and texture.
Food & Serving
Best served with equally refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, or truffle-infused cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended to allow the wine to open gradually, especially if enjoyed young relative to its full maturity.
Producer
Pétrus is one of the most celebrated names in Bordeaux and is often regarded as the pinnacle of Pomerol. Though it has no formal classification, its reputation has been built through decades of exceptional quality, limited production, and a consistent ability to produce wines of legendary status. It remains one of the most sought-after estates in the world.
