Petit Mouton 2nd Vin De Mouton Rothschild Pauillac, 2021

Petit Mouton is the second wine of Château Mouton Rothschild, offering a clear glimpse into the style and pedigree of one of Pauillac’s most celebrated estates. Made from the estate’s younger vines and selected lots, it delivers Cabernet-led structure, polished tannins and remarkable refinement for a second label.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Petit Mouton shows a deep ruby hue with fresh, elegant intensity. The bouquet leans toward blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, violets and a touch of tobacco, with Cabernet Sauvignon giving the wine its classic Pauillac edge. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with a precise, layered profile of dark berries, cassis, spice and subtle earthy notes. The tannins are fine-grained and the finish is long and disciplined, suggesting very good ageing potential over the next decade or more.

Production
Sourced from the gravelly soils of Pauillac, where excellent drainage and the maritime influence of Bordeaux help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen slowly and evenly. The wine is made from carefully selected parcels and younger vines from the Mouton Rothschild estate, then vinified with the same attention to detail that defines the grand vin, with fermentation and élevage designed to preserve purity, structure and balance.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, truffle dishes and hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if opening young to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open.
