Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass, this Chardonnay shows impressive concentration and clarity. The nose is layered and expressive, with mandarin, dried apricot and warm pineapple unfolding into brioche, acacia honey, hazelnut and a hint of grapefruit. On the palate, it is rich yet beautifully balanced, combining Williams pear, citrus, white flowers, almond and vanilla with a striking mineral line from the rocky soils. The texture is full and elegant, with excellent freshness and length. Enjoy it now for its sheer complexity, or cellar it confidently for at least another 10 years.

Production
La Carrière comes from Peter Michael’s own vineyard, perched on a very steep slope at around 500 meters elevation in California’s Sonoma/Knights Valley area. The site is defined by extremely rocky soils and excellent drainage, allowing the vines to struggle just enough to produce low yields and concentrated fruit. Winemaker Nicolas Morlet ages the wine for 12 months on the lees, building texture, depth and aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal partner for richer seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops or butter-poached crab, as well as roast chicken, creamy risotto, or poultry with mushrooms and herbs. Serve chilled but not too cold, around 10–12°C, to let the aromatics and texture show at their best. Decanting is not essential, though a short period in the glass will help the wine open up beautifully.
