Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its intensity. The nose opens with black cherry, raspberry, forest floor, and dried herbs, supported by subtle earthy and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is powerful yet composed, with dark berry fruit, spice, and a faint saline-mineral edge. Bright acidity and fine tannins keep everything focused and balanced, giving the wine the structure to age gracefully for up to 10 years, while still being expressive and enjoyable now.

This Pinot Noir comes from the historic Peter Martin Ray Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the vines grow at around 420 meters on shale-rich soils. The poor, low-fertility terroir naturally limits yields, helping produce grapes with notable concentration and depth. Arnot-Roberts works with a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar to preserve the vineyard’s character and allow the wine’s terroir-driven identity to shine through.

This is an excellent match for roast duck, duck breast, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, or herb-roasted poultry. Serve slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider a short decant if opening young to help the aromas unfold.
