Penfolds Yattarna 2023 is a refined Australian Chardonnay created to express the elegance and precision of cool-climate fruit. Known as Penfolds’ flagship white wine, Yattarna was first released in 1995 after an ambitious search for Australia’s finest Chardonnay vineyards, and it has since become one of the country’s most respected fine whites.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright pale-yellow colour with subtle lime-green highlights. Its expressive, elegant nose is marked by youthful purity, lifted citrus and restrained oak, with an energetic freshness that gives the wine an immediate sense of focus. On the palate, Yattarna is vibrant and finely balanced, offering a broad spectrum of citrus and orchard-fruit flavours supported by lively acidity. French oak contributes depth and texture without overshadowing the fruit, while the long, refreshing finish provides a firm foundation for the wine’s lingering flavour. It is approachable in its youth but should develop greater complexity and integration over the next 8–15 years when carefully cellared.

Production
Yattarna is made from Chardonnay grown in cool-climate Australian vineyards, where moderate temperatures and long ripening periods help preserve freshness, aromatic precision and natural acidity. The fruit is carefully selected and harvested at optimal ripeness before undergoing a sensitive, quality-focused vinification. The wine is matured for eight months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new and 40% one year old, adding subtle spice, creaminess and structure while maintaining the wine’s lively character.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Its bright acidity and elegant texture make it an excellent partner for grilled or roasted seafood, lobster, scallops, roast chicken, creamy fish dishes and soft, moderately mature cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but 15–30 minutes of aeration in a carafe can help reveal additional aromatic detail, particularly when the wine is enjoyed young.
