Made exclusively from Coonawarra Shiraz and matured in both French and American oak, it combines generous dark-fruit character with Penfolds’ hallmark precision, balance and polish.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red in appearance, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe blackberries, black cherries, plums and blueberries, complemented by violet, star anise, black pepper and clove. Subtle notes of cedar and vanilla add depth from the oak maturation. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, yet remarkably refined, with a velvety texture, supple mature tannins and lively acidity that bring freshness and definition. A long, persistent finish reveals dark chocolate, spice and ripe black fruit. This is an age-worthy Shiraz with the structure to develop greater savoury complexity and harmony over the next decade or more when carefully cellared.

Production
The wine is made exclusively from Shiraz grown in Coonawarra, a region renowned for its cool climate and distinctive terra rossa soils, which help produce wines of finesse, freshness and excellent structure. Following fermentation, the wine spends approximately 16 months maturing in a combination of French and American oak barrels. This carefully judged élevage adds complexity, framework and integrated cedar and vanilla notes without obscuring the character of the fruit.

Food & Serving
Its rich structure and polished tannins make it an excellent match for grilled beef, rib-eye steak, rosemary-roasted lamb, venison and other game dishes. It also pairs beautifully with slow-cooked short ribs, hearty mushroom stews and mature hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Cheddar. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, particularly when enjoying the wine young, to allow its aromas and texture to open fully.
