Description
Château Pedesclaux 2022 in magnum format brings the precision and depth of a Fifth Growth Pauillac to a larger bottle, ideal for elegant cellaring and special occasions. From one of Bordeaux’s most respected left-bank appellations, it offers the classic structure, cassis-driven character, and refined cedar-and-spice profile that Pauillac is known for.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a deep ruby color with youthful intensity. The nose is poised and layered, with blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, cedar, and hints of violet, tobacco, and discreet toast from élevage.
On the palate, it should show the hallmark Pauillac combination of power and restraint: firm but polished tannins, fresh acidity, dark fruit, and savory undertones of pencil lead, spice, and earth. The magnum format supports slower evolution, so this wine has excellent aging potential and should develop additional complexity over the next 10–20 years, depending on storage conditions.
Production
Produced in Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Pedesclaux benefits from gravelly soils that naturally favor Cabernet Sauvignon and deliver finesse, structure, and aromatic lift. The estate’s vineyards are typically harvested parcel by parcel to capture optimal ripeness, with careful sorting and plot-specific vinification used to preserve fruit purity and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, entrecôte, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting young bottles for 1–2 hours to soften the tannins and allow the aromatics to open up. The magnum format is particularly well suited to a long, graceful decant before serving.
Producer
Château Pedesclaux is a Fifth Growth estate from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, giving it a distinguished place among Pauillac’s historic names. Over time, the property has become known for combining classical Médoc structure with a more modern, precision-driven style, and it continues to strengthen its reputation as a benchmark producer in the appellation.
