Peay Vineyards Pomarium Estate Pinot Noir 2021 is a distinctive, cool-climate California Pinot Noir with uncommon depth, structure, and intensity. Grown on Peay’s own hillside estate in the remote West Sonoma Coast, it shows a darker, more powerful side of Pinot Noir while still keeping the variety’s finesse and aromatic complexity. This is a wine that reflects both a dramatic coastal terroir and the hands-on, meticulous vision of Nick Peay and Vanessa Wong.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vivid ruby color. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark cherry, Japanese plum, green tea, florals, and a touch of vanilla giving way to more savory nuances as it opens. The palate is broad and firmly built, driven by dark berries, blood orange, raspberry, earth, tar, and spice from the stems, all wrapped in a long, polished finish with silky tannins. It has the balance and concentration to age beautifully over the next several years, gaining even more complexity and savory detail with time.

Production
The fruit comes from Peay’s 51-acre estate vineyard in the northern West Sonoma Coast, around 6 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, where cool temperatures, steep hillsides, and constant coastal influence create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. The estate is planted to multiple Pinot Noir clones, and farming is organic, with biodiesel and solar power used on the property; most vineyard and cellar work is done by hand. The small-scale, highly attentive vinification emphasizes purity, site expression, and texture.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs well with duck, roast quail, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, lamb, or earthy dishes with herbs and root vegetables. Serve slightly chilled at around 15–16°C, and consider a short decant of 20–30 minutes if you want the savory aromatics to open up more fully.
