Description

Paul Gayot’s Meursault Les Malpoiriers 2023 is an elegant Burgundy white with the generous, textured character for which Meursault is renowned. Combining ripe white-fruit flavours with toasted, buttery nuances, it offers a refined balance of freshness, minerality and depth. Crafted in the Côte de Beaune from Chardonnay, it is a polished expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated white-wine appellations.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a bright, pale golden colour. Its expressive nose opens with aromas of toasted almonds, fresh butter, white peach and juicy pear, complemented by a subtle, inviting creaminess from its élevage in oak. On the palate, it is rich and beautifully textured, yet maintains a refreshing line of acidity. Delicate mineral notes add definition and length, bringing elegance and balance to the ripe fruit and rounded mouthfeel. The 2023 vintage can be enjoyed now for its appealing combination of freshness and generosity, while careful cellaring for several years should allow further integration and complexity.

Production
The grapes come from Meursault Les Malpoiriers in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, a renowned terroir for expressive Chardonnay shaped by limestone and clay soils. Whole bunches are pneumatically pressed before a 24-hour cold settling period. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels. The wine is then aged for 9 to 12 months in 228-litre barrels, 20% of which are new, adding discreet toasted and creamy nuances without overshadowing its freshness.

Food & Serving
This Meursault is a natural partner for fish and shellfish, roasted or poached white meats, fresh pasta with cream-based sauces, and mature cheeses. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C to reveal its texture and aromatic detail. Decanting is not essential, but giving the wine 15–30 minutes of air in a glass or carafe can help open its buttery, nutty character.
