Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red 2019 is one of Napa Valley’s most iconic Bordeaux-style blends, often called Jayson Pahlmeyer’s “California Mouton” for its ambition, depth, and polish. Marking the 33rd release of this celebrated wine, it helped establish Pahlmeyer as a benchmark producer of powerful yet refined California reds.

Tasting Notes
Deeply colored and impressively concentrated, the 2019 Proprietary Red shows classic notes of sweet vanilla, cedar, and blackcurrant on the nose, framed by the richness of new French oak. On the palate, it unfolds with ripe dark and red fruit, unsweetened chocolate, liquorice, dark-roasted coffee, and a stony, slate-like edge. The wine is built for longevity and can be enjoyed now or cellared for around a decade or more.

Production
The blend is led by 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, bringing complexity and structure to the wine. Fruit comes from three Napa Valley sites — Pahlmeyer Estate, Stagecoach, and Rancho Chimiles — and is matured for 20 months in French oak barrels, 85% of them new, to add depth, spice, and a fine-grained texture.

Food & Serving
This is a wine that deserves equally serious food: think ribeye, braised short ribs, herb-crusted lamb, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opening young, to let the layers of fruit, oak, and tannin fully express themselves.
