First made in 1991, it reflects the estate’s philosophy of selecting the best-performing fruit from the vintage, with Merlot typically taking the lead and Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese adding structure and freshness.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Le Volte 2021 shows a deep ruby color with inviting brightness. The nose is layered and generous, combining ripe dark berries, plum, and cherry with notes of Mediterranean herbs, spice, and a subtle savory edge. On the palate, it is supple and well balanced, with juicy fruit, rounded tannins, and a lively Tuscan character that keeps the wine fresh and energetic. It is designed to be enjoyed young, but it can also gain a little extra complexity over the next few years.

Production
Le Volte comes from Ornellaia’s Bolgheri vineyards in coastal Tuscany, where maritime influences, sunshine, and well-drained soils help produce fruit with ripeness and finesse. The wine is made from carefully selected parcels and reflects Ornellaia’s focus on choosing the grapes that best express the character of each vintage. Vinification follows a modern, precision-driven approach, with the final blend shaped to emphasize fruit purity, balance, and drinkability.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red that works beautifully with grilled lamb, roasted chicken, pasta with rich tomato sauces, and aged hard cheeses. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and decanting for 30 minutes can help bring out its aromatic depth and soften the wine further.

Ornellaia was founded in 1988 by Ludovico Antinori in Bolgheri, next to the legendary Sassicaia vineyards, and quickly became one of Tuscany’s most admired estates. Known for its meticulous viticulture and state-of-the-art winemaking, the property has helped define modern Bolgheri red wine. Today it is owned by Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi, one of Italy’s oldest and most respected wine families, and continues to enjoy international acclaim for both its flagship wines and second labels like Le Volte.
