Tasting Notes
In the glass, Le Serre Nuove 2020 shows a deep, intense ruby color with youthful purple reflections, signaling concentration and vibrancy. The nose opens generously with dark berries and black cherries, followed by notes of plum, cassis and wild blackberry, layered with hints of violet, Mediterranean herbs, cedar, graphite and a touch of sweet spice from well-judged oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet poised, with the warmth of the 2020 vintage translating into a supple, velvety texture rather than excess weight. Ripe black and red fruits are supported by finely polished, silky tannins that coat the palate without ever feeling heavy. Subtle cocoa, tobacco leaf and a gentle savory undercurrent bring complexity and length. While already approachable and pleasurable now, particularly in magnum, it will continue to develop beautifully over the next 8–12 years, gaining further harmony and tertiary nuances.

Production
Le Serre Nuove is sourced from younger vines and select parcels of the Ornellaia estate in Bolgheri, a coastal area of Tuscany known for its maritime influence, abundant sunshine and well-drained gravelly, sandy and clay-rich soils. The proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea moderates temperatures and extends the growing season, allowing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to achieve perfect ripeness while retaining freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, and carefully sorted before vinification. Each variety and plot is fermented separately in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with gentle extraction to preserve fruit purity and tannin finesse. After fermentation, the wines are aged in French oak barriques (a portion new, a portion second-use from Ornellaia) before blending, followed by additional time in bottle to ensure integration and elegance upon release.

This Bolgheri red is a versatile partner for richly flavored dishes and classic Tuscan-inspired cuisine. It pairs beautifully with bistecca alla fiorentina, grilled lamb chops, braised short ribs, roast veal, or game birds such as guinea fowl. Mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, and aged cheeses like Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano Reggiano also complement its depth and structure. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both fruit and freshness. In magnum format, a short decant of 45–60 minutes is recommended when young to allow the wine to open fully and reveal its aromatic complexity.
