Tasting Notes
In the glass, Ornellaia 2020 shows a deep, saturated ruby with youthful violet hues clinging to the rim. The nose is complex and layered: ripe blackcurrant, dark plum and blackberry are woven together with notes of violet, graphite, sweet tobacco, cedar and a touch of Mediterranean scrub and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is generous and enveloping, yet impeccably balanced. The Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and cassis-driven clarity, while Merlot adds plush, velvety texture and ripe dark fruit. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot contribute floral lift, savory spice and a subtle, inky depth. The tannins are ultra-fine and silky, framing the fruit in a long, precise finish with hints of mocha, licorice and fresh herbs. Despite the warmth of the vintage, the freshness is beautifully preserved, and the wine’s concentration suggests a long life ahead. Production
Ornellaia 2020 Bolgheri Superiore is born from the estate’s prime plots in the coastal Tuscan terroir of Bolgheri, drawn from around 107 hectares of vineyards close to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The soils are a mosaic of marine sediments, sands, clays and pebbles, giving both power and elegance to this Bordeaux-inspired blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Vines are meticulously managed with low yields and hand-harvested parcel by parcel at optimum ripeness. Each variety and vineyard block is vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete, followed by aging in French oak barriques (a significant portion new) to refine structure and integrate oak. Only after many months of élevage and careful selection are the best lots blended into Ornellaia, then further matured in bottle before release to ensure harmony and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a quintessential wine for refined, richly flavored dishes: think bistecca alla fiorentina, grilled ribeye, slow-braised beef short ribs, venison, roast lamb with rosemary, or game birds with truffle and wild mushrooms. It also pairs beautifully with aged Pecorino, Parmigiano Reggiano, and other hard cheeses, as well as porcini-based pasta and risotto. Serve Ornellaia 2020 at 16–18°C (60–64°F). In magnum, the wine benefits from generous aeration—decant for 2–3 hours in its youth to fully reveal its aromatic complexity and silky texture; as it matures, a shorter decant of about 1 hour will be sufficient to awaken its more nuanced, tertiary notes.
