Tasting Notes
In the glass, Slander shows a vibrant, inviting red-fruit profile with layers of wild strawberry, pomegranate seeds, and dark cherry, lifted by a hint of cedar. As it opens, more savory and spicy tones emerge—forest floor, white pepper, cocoa, and a mouthwatering sweet-tart finish reminiscent of rhubarb candy. It’s a Pinot Noir with plenty of energy and depth, balancing ripe fruit with a polished frame and a touch of oak influence. Production
Slander is made from Pinot Noir sourced across multiple California AVAs, including Sonoma Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands, and Sta. Rita Hills, allowing Dave Phinney to build a layered, consistent style from diverse terroirs. The wine was aged for 8 months in French oak barrels, with 32% new oak, adding subtle spice and texture without overpowering the fruit.

This is a versatile Pinot Noir for anything from roast duck and herb-crusted chicken to salmon, mushroom risotto, or grilled pork tenderloin. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 14–16°C, and decant briefly if possible to let the aromatics fully unfold.
