Tasting Notes
In the glass, Overture shows a deep, vibrant garnet hue with a youthful, almost glossy intensity. The nose opens with blackcurrant, ripe plum and black cherry, layered with hints of violet, graphite, cedar and baking spices, along with subtle notes of cocoa, tobacco leaf and a touch of dried herbs. On the palate, this is polished and elegant, with supple tannins wrapped around flavors of cassis, blackberries and dark cherries, supported by fine acidity. Notes of mocha, vanilla, clove and a faint earthiness add complexity, leading into a long, harmonious finish. While deliberately crafted to be enjoyable upon release, Overture has the structure to evolve beautifully over the next 8–12 years, gaining further nuance and softness in bottle.

Production
Overture is sourced exclusively from Opus One’s estate vineyards in Oakville, including blocks within the famed To Kalon area, where gravelly, well-drained alluvial soils and Napa’s warm Mediterranean climate foster optimal ripeness and concentration. Grapes are hand-harvested at night or in the cool early hours to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. Overture is a classic Bordeaux-style blend—typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec—assembled from multiple vintages to achieve balance, complexity and consistency. After fermentation in stainless steel and/or small oak vessels, the wine is aged in French oak barrels (a portion new) before blending and bottling, resulting in a cuvée that reflects both Opus One’s precision and Napa Valley’s generous character.

Food & Serving
Overture is a versatile companion at the table, pairing beautifully with roasted or grilled meats such as ribeye, lamb chops or beef tenderloin, as well as rich dishes like short ribs, duck breast, mushroom risotto and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatics and texture. Decanting for 45–60 minutes in its youth helps open up the bouquet and soften the tannins, while older bottles may require a more delicate, shorter decanting to separate any sediment without diminishing the wine’s subtler nuances.
