Opus One 2022 is one of Napa Valley’s most iconic Bordeaux-style reds, created through the collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Combining Napa’s ripe, concentrated fruit with a distinctly refined French sensibility, it is a powerful yet poised wine with impressive cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the 2022 vintage opens with layered aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by violet, cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with generous dark-fruit flavours, finely integrated oak and firm, polished tannins. Hints of dark chocolate, tobacco and savoury herbs add complexity to a long, persistent finish. Although approachable with decanting, this is a wine built to develop further in bottle over the next 15–25 years under suitable cellaring conditions.

Production
The wine is produced from carefully selected estate-grown Bordeaux varieties, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Opus One’s Napa Valley vineyards benefit from warm, sunny days, cool nights and well-drained soils, helping the grapes achieve both richness and freshness. The fruit is harvested by hand, carefully sorted and vinified parcel by parcel before the final blend is matured in French oak, allowing the structure, fruit and aromatic complexity to integrate.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gently to temperature. Decant for approximately 1–2 hours when enjoying the wine young; older bottles should be handled more carefully and may only need a short decant to separate any sediment. Its depth and tannic structure make it an excellent match for prime rib, grilled or roasted beef, venison, lamb, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses.
