Opus One 2021 is a distinguished Napa Valley red blend born from the collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, established in 1978 with the ambition of creating an American wine of world-class stature. A powerful yet refined expression of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it combines ripe fruit, polished structure and remarkable depth with the elegance associated with the Opus One style.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour with a youthful purple hue, the 2021 vintage opens with layered aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum and dark cherry, complemented by violet, graphite, cedar and subtle hints of cocoa and baking spice. On the palate, it is concentrated and beautifully structured, with rich dark fruit, finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of cassis, black cherry, dark chocolate and minerals lead to a long, persistent finish with savoury oak nuances. This is a serious, cellar-worthy vintage that should develop gracefully for 15–25 years or more under proper storage.

Production
The wine is sourced from Opus One’s estate vineyards in Napa Valley, where warm, sunny days encourage full ripeness while cooler nights help preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The 2021 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted and vinified parcel by parcel before the selected lots are blended and matured in French oak, allowing the fruit, tannins and oak to integrate into a harmonious whole.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for two to three hours before serving, particularly while the wine is young, to reveal its aromatic complexity and soften its tannins. Its depth and structure make it an excellent partner for prime rib, roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison and richly flavoured mushroom dishes. It can also be enjoyed with mature hard cheeses such as aged Gouda or Comté.
