Description
Olivini Chiaretto del Garda Classico DOC 2023 is a refined, lake-influenced rosé from the gentle hills surrounding Lake Garda in Veneto. Crafted from a traditional blend of Barbera, Gropello, Marzemino and Sangiovese, it captures the area’s signature combination of freshness, fragrance and subtle Mediterranean charm. As one of the historic rosé styles of northern Italy, Chiaretto has long been prized for its versatility at the table and its ability to express the breezy, sunlit character of Garda’s terroir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chiaretto shows a delicate, luminous pink hue with soft coral highlights, echoing a classic Italian lake rosé style. The nose is bright and inviting, with notes of wild strawberries, redcurrants and white cherries layered over hints of rose petals, citrus zest and a faint herbal edge that brings complexity.
On the palate, it is dry, crisp and finely textured, offering juicy red berry fruit, white peach and subtle pomegranate alongside a vibrant line of acidity. The influence of Barbera and Sangiovese lends structure and freshness, while Gropello and Marzemino contribute perfume and a gentle spice. The finish is clean, savory and slightly saline, reflecting its lakeside origin and making it exceptionally food-friendly. Best enjoyed within 2–3 years of the vintage to appreciate its pure, youthful fruit and lively character.
Production
The vineyards for Olivini Chiaretto del Garda Classico lie near Lake Garda in Veneto, where the mild climate, constant breezes and mineral-rich, morainic soils create ideal conditions for delicate, aromatic rosé wines. The Olivini family practice meticulous vineyard management, giving each vine careful attention throughout the growing season and relying on hand harvesting to select only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes. In the cellar, modern equipment and gentle vinification techniques are used to preserve freshness: a short, cool maceration on the skins extracts the wine’s pale color and subtle aromatics, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel to maintain purity, crispness and an emphasis on fruit over oak.
Food & Serving
This Chiaretto del Garda is an excellent companion to light, Mediterranean-inspired dishes such as grilled prawns, seafood crudo, Caprese salad, prosciutto with melon, or simple pasta with cherry tomatoes and basil. It also pairs beautifully with antipasti platters, freshwater fish from the grill, and delicate white meats. Serve well-chilled, around 8–10°C, to highlight its vibrancy and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary; a brief rest in the glass is enough for the wine to open up and reveal its full spectrum of fruit and floral notes.
Producer
The Olivini family has been producing wine since 1970 in the Lugana and Garda area near Lake Garda, working with the diverse range of grape varieties that thrive in this renowned corner of northern Italy. Today, the estate is run by Giorgio, Giordana and Giovanni, three entrepreneurial siblings who have inherited a deep passion for the local terroir and its potential for quality. Their philosophy centers on excellence at every stage: from labor-intensive vineyard work and hand harvesting to investment in state-of-the-art winery equipment that safeguards precision and purity in the finished wines. Olivini has become a respected name in the region for combining tradition with innovation, and for showcasing the distinctive character of Garda’s whites and rosés on the wider Italian and international stage.
