Description

Olivier Leflaive Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Charmois 2023 is a refined white Burgundy that captures the precision, minerality, and freshness for which Saint-Aubin is so admired. Made from Chardonnay by one of Burgundy’s most respected names, it offers a polished expression of Premier Cru terroir with both clarity and depth.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright pale gold color with green reflections. The nose is elegant and focused, with aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, green apple, ripe pear, and a subtle chalky, toasted nuance from careful élevage. On the palate, it is energetic and beautifully balanced, combining crisp acidity with a supple, textured mid-palate. Flavors of lemon, orchard fruit, and wet stone are often supported by a gentle hint of oak and a long, mineral finish. While already appealing in youth, it should also develop added complexity over the next several years, gaining richer nutty and honeyed notes with time.

Production
Saint-Aubin’s Premier Cru Charmois site benefits from classic Burgundy limestone and clay soils, which help preserve freshness while adding structure and precision to the wine. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified with care to emphasize purity of fruit and the character of the vineyard, with élevage likely including some oak to add subtle complexity without overshadowing the Chardonnay expression.

Food & Serving
This wine is a natural match for seafood, grilled fish, roast chicken, lobster, scallops, and creamy poultry dishes. It also pairs beautifully with hard cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short airing can help the wine open up if enjoyed young.

Producer
Olivier Leflaive is one of Burgundy’s most respected producers, known for crafting precise, terroir-driven wines that highlight the character of each appellation. Based in Puligny-Montrachet and deeply rooted in the Côte de Beaune, the estate has earned a strong reputation for both traditional craftsmanship and consistent quality across a wide range of Burgundy sites.
