Old St. Croix Family Reserve

Old St. Croix Family Reserve is a small-batch, ultra-premium rum blend created to honor heritage, craftsmanship, and togetherness. First introduced for a Riise family gathering in 2015, it brings together carefully selected casks from the West Indies and Central America in a numbered release of just 2,000 bottles.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a rich red-gold hue that hints at its depth and maturity. The nose opens with candied fruit, followed by a distinct note of light leather and cardamom, giving it an elegant yet characterful profile. On the palate, dark spices lead the way, joined by a subtle wisp of smoke, preserved orange peel, and a savory umami edge. The finish is long and satisfying, with lemon and vanilla cream layered over a gentle dusting of cinnamon. This is a rum designed for slow sipping and should continue to offer excellent enjoyment for years to come.

Production
Family Reserve is blended from carefully chosen casks sourced from respected distilleries in the West Indies and Central America, reflecting both regional diversity and the house style of Old St. Croix. Released in very limited numbered batches, it is crafted with a focus on balance, depth, and complexity, making the blend feel both celebratory and exclusive.

Food & Serving
Best enjoyed neat or with a single large ice cube to let the layered spice and citrus notes unfold. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, spiced desserts, roasted nuts, or aged cheeses, and also works well alongside a fine cigar. Serve slightly cool at around 16–18°C, and decanting is not necessary, though allowing it to rest in the glass for a few minutes can open up the aromatics.

Old St. Croix, formerly A.H. Riise, traces its roots back to 1838, when Danish apothecary Albert Heinrich Riise began producing spirits in the Danish West Indies. The brand became closely tied to the history of St. Thomas and St. Croix, helping establish West Indian rum on the international stage, including a gold medal at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Today, Old St. Croix continues to build on that legacy with premium blends that combine historic inspiration and modern craftsmanship.
