Description

Oddero Barbaresco 2022 is a Nebbiolo from Piedmont with cherry, violet, fine spice and the quiet grip of traditional Slavonian oak aging in a dry, composed red. This bottle leans into Oddero’s old-school cask habit. The biodynamic certification adds a clear farming marker for this Barbaresco.

About the Wine
Oddero Barbaresco 2022 is made from Nebbiolo grown in the Barbaresco district of Piedmont, on the limestone, clay and sand mix listed for this bottling. The wine carries biodynamic certification, which gives this bottle a more specific farming identity than a broad Langhe sourcing note. That soil combination matters in the glass as texture, with clay-like grip under the cherry fruit and a sandy trace to the tannin. The 2022 vintage here reads through red fruit, violet and a dry edge that keeps the perfume firmly in the Barbaresco district. Vinification leads to a dry red at 14.5% alcohol, raised in Slavonian oak casks according to the traditional DOCG rhythm for Barbaresco. The rules set nine months in wood as a minimum, and Oddero’s cask aging for this style extends around eighteen to twenty-four months in total. Large Slavonian oak leaves its mark as seasoning, with clove, cedar and a quiet tea note around the cherry. The extraction feels aimed at line and grip, so the final impression is cherry skin, violet stem and baking spice sitting inside a pale Nebbiolo frame.

Tasting Notes
Oddero Barbaresco 2022 opens with ripe red cherry, fresh violet and a dusting of cinnamon, and the Slavonian oak reads as dry spice, cedar and faint tobacco. The palate is dry and neatly framed, with fine-grained Nebbiolo tannins, a cherry skin bite and a savory pull through the middle of the wine. The 14.5% alcohol gives warmth, and the flavor stays in the red-fruited register with rose petal and black tea beside the spice. Air brings out dried orange peel and a savory clay note, a detail that fits the limestone, clay and sand soils listed for this bottling. The finish carries cherry pit and sweet tobacco, then tightens with the firm line that makes young Barbaresco so satisfying to follow in a large glass. Drink 2025-2035.

Food Pairing
Pour Oddero Barbaresco 2022 with red meat that has browned edges and real savor, such as rib-eye with rosemary or slow-cooked beef cheek. Its cherry and black tea notes suit game too, especially venison with juniper, hare ragù with porcini or roast pigeon served pink. For a Piedmontese table, choose brasato al Barbaresco or tajarin with a rich veal ragù, the tannins grab the sauce and the violet scent stays clear. Aged cheese is a strong move here, with Castelmagno, Parmigiano Reggiano or an old toma bringing salt and umami against the wine’s firm dry finish. Keep the seasoning earthy and measured: sage, rosemary, roasted garlic and black pepper echo the bottle’s baking spice and leave the red cherry fruit in focus at the center.

Producer
Oddero’s most concrete signature is the calm use of large casks, and that choice is written directly into this 2022 Barbaresco through its Slavonian oak aging and its dry spice detail. Poderi e Cantine Oddero is based in Santa Maria, a hamlet of La Morra, and the family name has been tied to the Langhe since the late eighteenth century through vineyards and cellar work. From that home base, this bottle has a useful angle: the Barbaresco district sits across the Tanaro from La Morra and adds another Nebbiolo voice to a range many drinkers first meet through Barolo bottlings. The producer became associated with estate bottling early for the area, and its modern labels still favor vineyard identity, long élevage and a quiet presentation on the label and in the glass. With Oddero, Nebbiolo leans into pale ruby color and measured perfume; this wine points to dry cherry, violet and tannin that gathers slowly after the first swallow over several minutes in a glass. The biodynamic certification attached to this bottle gives another concrete marker, and the finish echoes that detail through a grounded clay-and-tea note under the fruit, with baking spice from cask aging after air.
