Description
Neret Vely Champagne Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut “Terra Mia” is a refined grower Champagne that puts purity, tension and terroir in the spotlight. Crafted exclusively from white grapes and finished in an Extra Brut style, it offers a bone‑dry, mineral‑driven profile that’s perfect for lovers of precise, elegant bubbles. “Terra Mia” – literally “my earth” – is a tribute to the house’s own vineyards and the chalky soils that define the very best of Champagne.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Terra Mia shows a luminous, pale straw color with green reflections and a fine, persistent bead of bubbles. The nose is focused and elegant, with notes of lemon zest, green apple and white flowers layered over freshly baked brioche, crushed chalk and a touch of almond.
On the palate, this Blanc de Blancs is taut and vibrant, with a racy citrus core and a pronounced saline minerality that speaks clearly of Champagne’s chalk soils. Delicate flavors of pear, grapefruit, and chalky stone are supported by a beautifully linear acidity, while the Extra Brut dosage keeps the finish dry, long and mouthwatering rather than fruity or opulent. Enjoy it now for its energy and precision, or cellar it for 3–6 years to allow more nutty, brioche and honeyed complexity to emerge.
Production
Terra Mia is a Blanc de Blancs Champagne, produced from Chardonnay grown on the classic limestone and chalk soils of the Champagne region in France. These soils, combined with a cool northern climate, give naturally high acidity and a pronounced mineral character to the grapes. The fruit is typically harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, to preserve berry integrity and allow meticulous selection. After gentle pressing, the base wines are fermented in stainless steel or a mix of stainless steel and neutral vessels to retain freshness and purity. Following blending, the wine undergoes its secondary fermentation in bottle and then ages sur lie in the cellars, where extended contact with the lees builds texture, complexity and its refined mousse before disgorgement with a very low (Extra Brut) dosage.
Food & Serving
This Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs is a natural partner for pristine seafood and delicate dishes. Serve it with freshly shucked oysters, scallop carpaccio, sushi and sashimi, or simply grilled fish with lemon and herbs; it also shines alongside goat cheese, lightly dressed salads, tempura, and refined canapés. For best enjoyment, serve well‑chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F). A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass is enough to let the aromas unfurl; decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle a few minutes before pouring will help the wine fully express its finesse.
Producer
Neret Vely is a grower‑producer based in Champagne, France, working from its own vineyards rather than relying on purchased fruit. This hands‑on approach allows the estate to focus closely on site expression, crafting cuvées like Terra Mia that highlight the nuances of their chalk‑rich terroirs. While not among the largest or most industrial houses, Neret Vely belongs to the increasingly influential group of artisanal Champagne growers that emphasize precision, low dosage and clear vineyard character in their wines, contributing to Champagne’s reputation as a region where terroir and craftsmanship still matter deeply.
