Müller-Catoir, Pfalz Weissburgunder 2023 White

Müller-Catoir’s 2023 Pfalz Weissburgunder is a juicy, finely balanced expression of Pinot Blanc from one of Germany’s most respected family estates. Fresh, elegant and subtly mineral, it combines ripe orchard-fruit character with the polished precision that has defined Müller-Catoir wines for generations. The estate has been family-owned since 1744 and is now guided by its ninth generation.

Tasting Notes
Bright and clear in the glass, this Weissburgunder opens with a subtle, inviting fragrance of fresh pear and crisp apple, complemented by a delicate hint of nuts. On the palate, it is supple and refreshing, with well-integrated acidity, a gentle fruit-driven texture and a refined mineral finish. Enjoy it in its youth for its freshness and finesse, although its balance and mineral character should allow it to develop additional texture and complexity over the next two to four years when stored in a cool, dark cellar.

Production
The wine comes from Müller-Catoir’s own vineyards around Haardt in the Pfalz, on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. Vineyard work is carried out carefully by hand throughout the seasons, followed by a selective manual harvest. The grapes are slowly fermented at cool temperatures in stainless-steel tanks, preserving their clean fruit, freshness and mineral character before the wine is given time to mature in the cellar.

Food & Serving
This versatile Weissburgunder is an excellent match for grilled or steamed fish, shellfish, asparagus, fresh salads and light poultry dishes. Its subtle nuttiness also works well with creamy vegetable dishes, mild cheeses and delicate pasta preparations. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, though allowing the wine a few minutes in the glass will let its aromas open further.

Müller-Catoir has been a family-run winery since 1744 and is based at the historic estate of Haardt near Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The ninth generation continues the family tradition while remaining open to modern techniques, combining meticulous vineyard work with patient cellar practices. The estate produces wines exclusively from its own vineyards, known for their refinement, mineral expression and distinctive elegance.
