Müller-Catoir’s 2022 Bürgergarten Im Breumel is a refined Riesling from the Haardt area of the Pfalz, combining generous yellow-fruit character with the region’s distinctive mineral freshness. Made entirely from grapes grown in the estate’s own vineyards, it reflects a family tradition that has continued since 1744 while embracing careful, modern cellar practices.

Tasting Notes
Bright and elegant in the glass, this Riesling offers an expressive bouquet of ripe apricots, yellow fruit and mature peaches. The palate is full-bodied and finely textured, with a pleasing balance between rounded fruit and refreshing acidity. A persistent mineral note emerges on the finish, adding precision and complexity. The wine is approachable in its youth, but its structure, acidity and mineral character should allow it to develop additional nuance over the medium term. With bottle age, the fruit may become more integrated while the mineral and savoury elements gain prominence.

Production
The vineyards lie in the Haardt landscape, on the edge of the Pfälzerwald, where the region’s Rieslings are known for their combination of ripe fruit, freshness and mineral character. Vineyard work is carried out carefully by hand throughout the growing season, followed by a selective manual harvest. In the cellar, the wine undergoes a slow, cool fermentation in stainless-steel tanks and is given extended, attentive maturation before bottling to preserve its finesse and distinctive estate style.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its ripe fruit, mineral finish and generous texture make it a natural partner for shellfish, grilled or poached fish, seafood salads and poultry in a light sauce. It also works beautifully with mildly spiced Asian dishes and fresh goat’s cheese. Decanting is not generally necessary, although allowing the wine to breathe briefly in the glass can reveal more of its aromatic depth.

Müller-Catoir has been a family-run estate since 1744 and is now operated by the ninth generation. Based in the Haardt area of the Pfalz, the winery is recognised for producing highly refined wines with a clear mineral identity and elegant, individual character. The estate combines meticulous manual vineyard work and traditional patience in the cellar with an openness to new methods, while using exclusively grapes from its own vineyards.
