Description
Müller-Catoir’s Pfalz Haardt Riesling 2023 captures the distinctive mineral character of the Haardt, combining generous yellow-fruit expression with freshness and precision. Made exclusively from grapes grown in the estate’s own vineyards, it reflects a refined house style shaped by more than 275 years of family winemaking tradition.
Tasting Notes
Bright and inviting in appearance, this Riesling opens with a fragrant bouquet of apricot and ripe peach, complemented by the stony, mineral notes typical of the Haardt. On the palate, it is notably full-bodied yet elegant, with ripe fruit, refreshing balance and a long finish marked by a persistent mineral undertone.
The wine is approachable now, but its structure, freshness and mineral character should allow it to develop additional complexity over the next few years when properly stored.
Production
The vineyards lie around Haardt on the edge of the Pfälzerwald, an area known for its mineral-rich character and favorable conditions for Riesling. Vineyard work is carried out carefully by hand throughout the seasons, followed by selective manual harvesting. The grapes are slowly fermented at cool temperatures in stainless-steel tanks, then given careful maturation in the cellar before bottling as late as possible to preserve the wine’s refinement and distinctive Müller-Catoir character.
Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its ripe fruit, mineral freshness and generous body make it a natural partner for seafood, grilled fish, shellfish, poultry and creamy vegetable dishes; it also works well with mildly spiced Asian cuisine. Decanting is not necessary, although opening the bottle shortly before serving can allow its aromas to broaden.
Producer
Müller-Catoir has been a family-owned winery since 1744 and is now led by the ninth generation. Based in Haardt, one of the nine wine villages around Neustadt an der Weinstraße, the estate combines traditional vineyard practices with a willingness to embrace carefully chosen modern methods. Extensive handwork, slow fermentation and patient cellar ageing are central to its wines, which are known for their refinement, mineral expression and unmistakable sense of place.
