Description
Château Mouton Rothschild 2012 is a superb expression of one of Pauillac’s most iconic First Growth estates, combining power, precision, and unmistakable pedigree. As a 1er Grand Cru Classé from Bordeaux, it stands among the world’s most sought-after wines, admired for its depth, refinement, and remarkable consistency across vintages.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2012 vintage typically shows a deep ruby to garnet color, with the concentration and clarity expected from Mouton Rothschild. The nose is layered and elegant, unfolding with blackcurrant, cassis, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, and finely judged oak spice.
On the palate, it is structured yet polished, with ripe dark fruit, savory minerality, and firm but well-integrated tannins that give the wine both authority and balance. The finish is long and precise, with the kind of complexity that promises excellent development in bottle over many years. This is a wine built for aging and should continue to evolve gracefully for decades.
Production
Produced in Pauillac, one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious terroirs, Mouton Rothschild benefits from gravel-rich soils that provide excellent drainage and help the vines produce concentrated, finely structured fruit. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard management and careful selection, with harvests typically carried out by hand to preserve fruit quality and ensure only the best grapes enter the blend. Vinification is traditionally precise and detail-driven, with aging in new French oak barrels contributing to the wine’s signature depth, texture, and aromatic complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with premium dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison, and truffle-based preparations. It also works exceptionally well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully and soften its tannins.
