Mount Mary Vineyard, Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2020 White

Mount Mary’s 2020 Yarra Valley Chardonnay is a refined expression from one of Victoria’s pioneering premium wineries. Founded in 1971, Mount Mary helped re-establish the Yarra Valley as a serious wine region and remains a family-owned estate known for elegant, age-worthy wines shaped by a cool-climate setting.

Tasting Notes
Bright and refined in the glass, this Chardonnay opens with aromas of fresh lemon, almond and white flowers, complemented by delicate vanilla and subtle oak. The palate is full-bodied and flavourful, with vibrant grapefruit notes, a gently spicy character and a long, intense finish. The balance of fruit, oak and freshness gives the wine both immediate appeal and the structure to develop further in bottle. With careful cellaring, it should gain additional complexity and savoury depth over time.

Production
The wine comes from Mount Mary’s estate in the Yarra Valley, southeast of Melbourne, a region recognised for producing expressive, cool-climate Chardonnay. Following maturation, the wine spends 11 months in oak, with 30% new French barriques and the remainder in older barrels and larger-format oak vessels. Harvesting methods and specific vinification details have not been provided.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C to allow its citrus, floral and spicy notes to emerge. It pairs beautifully with roast or grilled chicken, seared scallops, baked salmon, creamy seafood dishes and lightly spiced poultry. Decanting is not essential, though a short period of aeration in the glass can help reveal the wine’s layered aromas and oak integration.
