Description

Château Montrose 1999 is a classic Saint-Estèphe from one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, offering the depth, structure, and precision expected from a 2ème Grand Cru Classé. This vintage comes from a château with a long-standing reputation for producing age-worthy wines with a distinctly powerful yet refined character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Montrose 1999 typically shows a mature garnet to brick-tinged ruby color, reflecting its development over time. The bouquet leans toward dark cassis, plum, cedar, tobacco, and earthy notes, with hints of leather, graphite, and subtle spice emerging with aeration. On the palate, the wine is usually firm and structured, with Saint-Estèphe’s trademark savory edge and well-integrated tannins supporting layers of black fruit, forest floor, and smoke. The finish is persistent and composed, and while this vintage has already gained considerable maturity, well-stored bottles can continue to evolve gracefully for several more years.

Production
Produced in Saint-Estèphe on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Montrose benefits from a gravelly, clay-rich terroir that favors Cabernet Sauvignon and supports long-lived, structured wines. The estate is known for careful vineyard management and traditional Bordeaux vinification aimed at preserving concentration, freshness, and balance.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours if the bottle is showing youthful structure or if sediment is present.
