Description
Montresor Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Capitel della Crosara 2017 is a richly styled Amarone that combines the depth of Valpolicella’s classic grape trio with the character of a historic village site. Born from a long-standing relationship between the Montresor family and local growers, it reflects both tradition and a strong sense of place. The wine takes its name from the ancient wayside shrine, or "capitello," at the crossroads in Crosara, adding a touch of local history and identity to every bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a deep, intense ruby-garnet color with the concentration typical of Amarone. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe dark cherry, dried plum, black fig, sweet spice, cocoa, and subtle balsamic notes, followed by hints of tobacco and leather as it opens.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with velvety tannins, concentrated fruit, and the hallmark richness of dried-grape winemaking. There is both power and balance here, with a long, warming finish and the structure to continue developing beautifully over time. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, gaining complexity with several years in bottle.
Production
This Amarone comes from the Valpolicella Classico zone in Veneto, where hillside vineyards and a favorable microclimate help produce grapes with intensity and aromatic finesse. Corvina, Molinara, and Rondinella are traditionally used for the blend, and the wine is made in the Amarone style, which relies on carefully selected grapes and a production method designed to concentrate flavor and structure.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with rich, flavorful dishes such as braised beef, game, roasted lamb, mature cheeses, or risotto with wild mushrooms. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for an hour or more before serving to allow the wine’s aromas and texture to fully खुल?
Producer
Montresor is a historic Verona-based producer with deep roots in the Veneto wine tradition. The family has long been associated with Valpolicella and other classic regional wines, building a reputation for quality, consistency, and close ties to local growers. Their Capitel della Crosara bottling reflects that heritage, combining traditional sourcing with a style that has helped cement Amarone’s international prestige.
