Description
Montirius La Muse Papilles Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2022 is a biodynamic Southern Rhône white that’s all about purity, freshness and sheer drinkability. Crafted from Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, it captures the sun of the Rhône while keeping a beautiful, mouthwatering tension. This cuvée has become a favorite for those seeking an elegant, organic white that overdelivers on charm and character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, La Muse Papilles Blanc 2022 shows a pale straw to light gold color with subtle green reflections, signaling its freshness and youth. The nose is expressive yet refined, offering aromas of white flowers, fresh pear, green apple and citrus zest, layered with hints of fennel, wet stone and a touch of almond from the Roussanne.
On the palate, the wine is dry, vibrant and silky, with the Clairette bringing energy and lift, Grenache Blanc adding generous fruit and texture, and Roussanne contributing a gentle, rounded depth. Expect flavors of lemon and grapefruit, ripe orchard fruits, a whisper of stone fruit and a saline, mineral edge that keeps everything beautifully balanced. The finish is clean, refreshing and slightly savory, making it a wonderfully moreish, food‑friendly white. Best enjoyed in its first 3–5 years to appreciate its vivid fruit and floral character, though it has enough structure to hold well for a bit longer.
Production
Montirius farms its vineyards in the Southern Rhône on limestone and sandy soils that naturally limit yields and enhance finesse and minerality in the wines. The estate is renowned for its commitment to certified organic and biodynamic farming, with handwork in the vineyard and an emphasis on biodiversity and soil health. Grapes for La Muse Papilles are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness, then gently pressed and vinified with minimal intervention to allow the fruit and terroir to shine. Fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled conditions, largely in stainless steel, to retain aromatic purity, and the wine is matured on fine lees for added texture and complexity before bottling without excessive filtration.
Food & Serving
This Côtes du Rhône Blanc is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with grilled or baked white fish, shellfish, sushi, lightly spiced Asian dishes, Provençal salads, goat cheese, soft cheeses and vegetable‑based dishes such as roasted cauliflower or fennel. Serve well‑chilled but not icy, ideally around 10–12°C, to allow its aromatics and texture to open up. Decanting is not essential, but pouring it into a carafe 10–15 minutes before serving can gently enhance its floral and mineral notes.
