Meerlust Chardonnay 2024 comes from one of Stellenbosch’s true benchmark estates, where quality is treated with meticulous care from vineyard to bottle. Founded in 1756, Meerlust has long been regarded as an icon of South African wine, and this Chardonnay reflects the estate’s reputation for precision, balance, and world-class winemaking.

Tasting Notes
This Chardonnay is crafted to show both richness and refinement, with a polished style shaped by oak maturation. Expect a layered nose and palate with ripe fruit character, subtle oak influence, and the kind of structure that gives the wine elegance as well as depth. With careful picking across five separate harvests to capture ideal ripeness, the wine should offer a composed, well-balanced profile and a satisfying finish. Its oak fermentation and ageing suggest a Chardonnay with good cellaring potential, likely to develop added complexity over the next few years.

Production
The wine is sourced from three separate Stellenbosch vineyards, all under the careful management of Roelie Joubert. During veraison, a green harvest reduces the crop by around 40%, leaving just two bunches per vine to ensure concentration and quality, while harvesting in five stages helps preserve optimal ripeness across the parcels. Fermentation takes place in oak, 50% of which is new, followed by a further 10 months of maturation in oak before bottling.

This Chardonnay will pair beautifully with rich seafood, roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, and lightly spiced poultry, as well as grilled fish or lobster. Serve it well chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider a brief decant if you want to open up its oak-driven aromatics and texture.
