Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 comes from one of Stellenbosch’s most historic and respected estates. Acquired in 1756, Meerlust is renowned for producing refined, age-worthy wines that express the character of South Africa’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, this Cabernet Sauvignon offers inviting aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, complemented by subtle notes of cedar, spice and well-integrated oak. The palate is concentrated yet elegant, with ripe tannins, balanced freshness and a long, savoury finish that reflects the wine’s Stellenbosch origins. Its structure and oak maturation give it excellent cellaring potential. It can be enjoyed now after decanting, but should develop greater complexity over the next 8–12 years when properly stored.

Production
The grapes are sourced from selected Meerlust vineyards in Stellenbosch, where granite and clay soils provide both depth and structure. The vines are approximately 25–30 years old, and the grapes undergo vinification in oak with regular remontage, a process in which the fermenting must is pumped over the skins to enhance colour, aroma and flavour extraction. The wine is then matured for 21 months in French oak, around 50% of which is new.

Food & Serving
A natural match for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, venison and other richly flavoured red meats, it also pairs well with mushroom dishes, hearty stews and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving, particularly if enjoying the wine in its youth, to allow its aromas and tannins to open.

Meerlust is a historic Stellenbosch estate acquired in 1756 and is considered one of the region’s iconic wine producers. Its name, meaning “joy of the sea”, reflects the estate’s long heritage, while its wines have earned broad international recognition. Meerlust is particularly famous for Rubicon, its Bordeaux-style flagship blend, and remains one of South Africa’s most respected producers.
