McManis Family Vineyards’ 2023 Petite Sirah is a richly coloured California red that combines ripe fruit character with gentle tannins and well-integrated oak. Made by a fourth-generation winegrowing family, it reflects the warm, fruit-driven style of the northern San Joaquin Valley while maintaining a balanced, approachable profile.

Tasting Notes
Deep and dark in appearance, the wine opens with inviting aromas of ripe blueberries and warming spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with concentrated dark-fruit flavours, a supple texture and soft tannins. French and American oak contribute subtle notes of vanilla, toast and spice without overpowering the fruit. Enjoy it over the next few years while its ripe fruit and smooth structure are at their most expressive; careful cellaring may allow further development.

Production
The grapes come from McManis vineyards near the cooling influence of the San Joaquin and Stanislaus Rivers, south of Lodi in the area now known as River Junction. This setting helps moderate the warm California growing conditions. The wine is fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless-steel tanks before spending four months in a combination of new and used French and American barriques, creating a measured balance between oak character and fruit freshness.

Food & Serving
Serve this Petite Sirah lightly cool, at approximately 16–18°C. Its rich fruit, spice and soft tannins make it a natural match for grilled or slow-cooked beef, barbecued ribs, lamb, hearty stews and richly seasoned vegetarian dishes such as mushroom or lentil ragout. Decanting is not essential for the 2023 vintage, but 20–30 minutes in a decanter can help open the wine and soften its texture further.

The McManis family has cultivated grapes in the region since 1938 and today farms approximately 1,200 hectares of vineyards. Based in the northern San Joaquin Valley, the family focuses on producing expressive, quality-driven wines and grapes while maintaining close control over vineyard and production decisions.
