Description
Maximin Grünhaus Riesling Abtsberg Auslese Nr. 64 2025 is a beautifully precise sweet Riesling from one of the Mosel’s most celebrated sites. Sourced from the steep, slate-rich Abtsberg, it combines intense fruit purity with electric freshness and the kind of depth that has made Auslese wines from this estate highly sought after for generations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright golden hue with glints of green, reflecting both ripeness and freshness. The nose is expected to be highly expressive, with aromas of ripe peach, apricot, citrus blossom, honeyed lime, and classic slate-driven minerality.
On the palate, the wine should deliver concentrated sweetness balanced by vivid acidity, giving it lift and precision rather than heaviness. Flavors of stone fruit, candied citrus, and ripe orchard fruit are likely to unfold over a long, polished finish. With its balance and structure, this wine has excellent aging potential and can evolve beautifully over many years, developing more complex notes of petrol, spice, and dried fruit.
Production
The Abtsberg vineyard is one of the great sites of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, known for its steep slopes and weathered blue slate soils that help retain heat while lending the wine its signature minerality and elegance. Riesling is harvested selectively, with only the most perfectly ripe grapes chosen for Auslese-level concentration.
Vinification is typically designed to preserve the grape’s natural perfume, freshness, and precision, allowing the vineyard character to shine through. The result is a wine that balances richness and restraint, shaped by both the unique terroir and careful cellar work.
Food & Serving
This wine is a superb match for fruit-based desserts, apricot tart, crème brûlée, or blue cheese, where its sweetness and acidity create a harmonious contrast. It also works beautifully alongside spicy Asian cuisine, foie gras, or simply on its own as a contemplative wine. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a brief airing can help open the aromatics in youth.
