Description
Max Ferd. Richter Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Auslese** Fass 61 2012 is a beautifully precise Mosel Riesling that combines intense sweetness with vibrant freshness. Sourced from one of the region’s most famous steep vineyard sites and matured in Fass 61, it offers a distinctive expression of craftsmanship, site character, and classic German wine tradition.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a rich golden hue that hints at its ripeness and concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of peach, apricot, citrus, and a subtle mineral lift typical of fine Mosel Riesling.
On the palate, this Auslese is full-bodied, lush, and fruit-driven, yet remains finely balanced by bright acidity that keeps the sweetness in check. The result is a wine of elegance and freshness, with excellent aging potential—particularly for those who enjoy watching sweet Riesling evolve toward deeper notes of honey, dried fruit, and petrol over time.
Production
Produced from hand-harvested Riesling grapes grown on the steep slate slopes of Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, this wine reflects both a cool-climate terroir and a highly selective harvest. The vineyard’s exposure and drainage help the grapes achieve optimal ripeness while retaining signature Mosel acidity.
Fass 61 indicates maturation in a specific cask, adding an additional layer of individuality to the finished wine. As an Auslese, only particularly ripe, carefully selected grapes were used, resulting in a concentrated, aromatic style with natural sweetness and refinement.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, blue cheese, or mildly salty cheeses that can complement its sweetness. It also works wonderfully as an aperitif for those who enjoy a more indulgent style of white wine.
Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C. Decanting is generally not necessary, though a short opening before serving can help the aromas become more expressive.
