Matarromera Ribera del Duero Prestigio 2019 comes from one of the most respected names in Spain’s Ribera del Duero, a producer deeply rooted in the region’s historic “Golden Mile.” Crafted under Carlos Moro’s leadership, it reflects a commitment to sustainability, precision, and the character of old Castilla in every bottle.

Tasting Notes
Deep and intense in colour, this wine typically shows a dark ruby core with youthful vibrancy. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe black fruit, plum, and blackberry lifted by notes of spice, cocoa, fine oak, and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, it is structured and polished, with concentrated fruit, well-integrated tannins, and a balanced freshness that gives the wine both power and elegance. The Tempranillo core is complemented by small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, adding depth and complexity. This is a wine built for ageing, and it should continue to develop beautifully over several years, gaining more nuance and harmony with time.

Production
The estate lies in the heart of Ribera del Duero, on clay-sandy soils with slate and limestone at the foot of the northern hills of the Valle del Duero. More than 160 hectares are planted primarily with Tempranillo, alongside small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All grapes are hand-harvested, and the vineyard is managed according to organic and sustainable principles, with careful work throughout the year to support healthy ripening and quality fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled ribeye, game, mature Manchego, or richly seasoned stews. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour if opening it young to allow the aromas and tannins to fully open up.

Bodegas Matarromera was founded by Carlos Moro, whose family history in winemaking stretches back to the Olivares and Valbuena de Duero area, now known as the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero. The winery is widely regarded as one of the region’s leading estates and is known for combining modern winemaking with environmental responsibility. Moro’s commitment to sustainable viticulture earned him the European Environment Award in 2012.
