Matarromera, Crianza 2019

Matarromera Crianza 2019 is a polished expression of Ribera del Duero, shaped by one of Spain’s most respected estates. Crafted from estate-grown fruit and rooted in the region’s classic Tempranillo tradition, it combines depth, balance and a strong sense of place.

Tasting Notes
Expect a deep ruby colour with youthful brightness in the glass. The nose is likely to show ripe dark berries, plums and a subtle layer of spice, with hints of oak, dried herbs and the earthy character typical of Ribera del Duero. On the palate, this Crianza should feel structured and generous, with ripe fruit, firm but well-integrated tannins and a fresh backbone that keeps everything in balance. Its style suggests good ageing potential, especially over the next few years, as the fruit and oak components continue to knit together.

Production
The vineyards lie in the heart of Ribera del Duero, near the famed Golden Mile, on soils of clay, sand, slate and limestone that demand careful vineyard work throughout the year. All grapes are harvested by hand, and the estate follows an organic and sustainable philosophy under Carlos Moro. The wine is produced mainly from Tempranillo, with small parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot adding extra nuance and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red for roasted lamb, grilled steak, ibérico pork, rich stews and aged Manchego. Serve at 16–18°C for the best balance of fruit and structure. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, especially in its youth, to open up the aromas and soften the tannins.

Producer
Bodegas Matarromera traces its roots back to Carlos Moro’s family history in the village areas between Olivares and Valbuena de Duero, part of what is now known as the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero. Since taking over the estate in 1988, Moro has built Matarromera into a leading name in the region, known for quality, sustainability and a deep respect for the landscape. His environmental commitment was recognised with the European Environment Award in 2012.
