Description
Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici is a benchmark expression of Taurasi DOCG, crafted entirely from Aglianico and rooted in one of Campania’s most historic wine families. It combines power, elegance, and a deep sense of place, offering a classic interpretation of southern Italy’s most celebrated red. Radici also pays tribute to more than two centuries of Mastroberardino’s role in the cultural and viticultural history of Irpinia.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, concentrated red with the dark intensity you would expect from Aglianico. The nose is broad and complex, unfolding with cherry, violet, small red berries, and a distinctive spicy edge that adds depth and energy.
The palate is enveloping yet refined, with layers of plum, black cherry, and strawberry, supported by vibrant spice and a firm, structured backbone. It has the concentration and balance to age beautifully, developing even greater nuance and complexity over time.
Production
Radici Taurasi is sourced from Mastroberardino’s Aglianico vineyards in Montemarano and Mirabella Eclano, two sites that contribute to the wine’s depth, structure, and aromatic precision. Campania’s inland terroir, with its altitude and significant diurnal shifts, helps preserve freshness while allowing the grapes to reach full phenolic ripeness. Harvesting is done with care to select healthy, fully mature fruit, followed by traditional vinification aimed at highlighting Aglianico’s natural structure, perfume, and ageworthiness.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for richly flavored dishes such as braised beef, lamb, game, slow-cooked ragù, and aged cheeses. It is best served at 16–18°C, and a period of decanting is recommended to allow the wine to open fully and reveal its layered aromatics and texture.
Producer
Mastroberardino is one of Campania’s most important and historically significant wine estates, with a family legacy that stretches back more than 200 years in Irpinia. The producer has played a central role in preserving and elevating native southern Italian grapes, especially Aglianico and Taurasi. Today, it remains a reference point for the region, known for wines that combine authenticity, tradition, and outstanding aging potential.
