Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Barolo Parafada shows a luminous, deep garnet core with classic brick-tinged edges that hint at its Nebbiolo heritage. The nose is intricate and expressive: aromas of iron and rusted metal weave through notes of blood orange, lavender, dried rose petals and a touch of spice and underbrush, giving a sense of both place and structure. On the palate, this is a firmly built Barolo, with the hallmark Serralunga tannins wrapped in a smooth, almost glossy texture. Flavours of red cherry, blood orange, pomegranate and wild berries are layered with savoury undertones of iron, tobacco leaf, dried herbs and subtle liquorice. The 15% alcohol lends warmth and richness, but the wine remains taut, agile and precise, with a long, mineral-driven finish. Production
The Parafada vineyard is a compact 1.2-hectare cru in Serralunga d’Alba, known for its steep slopes, south to south-west exposure and predominantly calcareous marl soils that give Barolo its power, longevity and mineral backbone. The site’s altitude and well-drained soils contribute to small, concentrated Nebbiolo berries with thick skins and intense aromatic profiles. Massolino works with meticulous vineyard management, including careful green harvesting and manual picking at optimal ripeness to preserve both freshness and structure. In the cellar, the estate follows a classically inspired approach: extended maceration on the skins and fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, followed by aging in large, traditional oak casks (often Slavonian) to allow the cru character to shine without overt new oak influence. The 2020 vintage, marked by warmth and excellent ripeness, is captured here with precision and balance.

Food & Serving
This is a serious gastronomic wine that shines alongside richly flavoured, protein-rich dishes. Think braised beef or veal shank, slow-cooked lamb, game birds, veal cheek, or classic Piedmontese dishes such as brasato al Barolo and tajarin with porcini or truffle. Aged hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes also make superb partners, as the wine’s iron-mineral edge and floral lift balance the richness on the plate. Given its youth and structure, decanting is strongly recommended—at least 2–3 hours for current drinking, and even longer for maximum expressiveness, especially from this 5 L bottle.
