Masseto Massetino 2021 is a polished Tuscan Merlot blend that captures the elegance and precision of a strong vintage. Sourced from Masseto’s blue clay slopes, it combines ripe fruit, fine structure, and a vivid aromatic profile in a style that has quickly become one of the estate’s most admired expressions.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, vibrant ruby colour. The nose is generous and layered, opening with ripe cherry, blackberry, blue plum, and wild blueberry, followed by floral hints of violet, herbs, graphite, dark cocoa, and subtle oak. The palate is full-bodied yet beautifully lifted, with juicy dark fruit, some red berry brightness, and exceptionally well-integrated tannins. It feels both rich and agile, finishing long and elegant with mineral notes and fine spice. While approachable now for its charm and purity, it has the structure to age gracefully for 8–12 years.

Production
The grapes come from Masseto’s celebrated blue clay hillside in Tuscany, where the soils and site exposure help shape the wine’s depth, precision, and mineral character. The 2021 season offered good water reserves after a rainy winter, a stable spring, and a warm summer without extremes, while cool late-summer nights preserved freshness and slowed ripening for excellent aromatic clarity. Each parcel was vinified separately to preserve the nuances of the terroir. Fermentation took place in concrete tanks with gentle extraction to maintain the wine’s silky, juicy tannins, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques. A measured proportion of new oak added depth and finesse, before 12 months in barrel and a short period in concrete gave the wine its rounded, harmonious texture.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, filet of beef, braised veal, mushroom dishes, or rich Tuscan-inspired cuisine such as pappardelle with ragù. Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for about 1 hour if drinking young, especially to open up the floral and mineral nuances.
