Description
Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc 2023 is an acclaimed white from the Languedoc estate often described as one of the region’s pioneering fine-wine producers. Rather than following a conventional regional blend, the cuvée reflects the estate’s distinctive approach of combining carefully selected grape varieties to create a white with freshness, complexity and excellent ageing potential.
Tasting Notes
The 2023 vintage is expected to show a bright, pale-gold appearance, with expressive aromas of citrus, white flowers, orchard fruit and subtle herbal or mineral nuances. On the palate, it combines lively acidity with a rounded, textured character, leading to a long, refreshing finish. Its balance and structure allow it to develop additional layers in bottle over the next several years, while remaining approachable when young.
Production
The wine comes from Mas de Daumas Gassac’s vineyards near Aniane in the Languedoc, where elevated sites, limestone-rich soils and the influence of the surrounding hills help preserve freshness in the Mediterranean climate. The estate is known for its diverse plantings and non-conventional blends, with the final composition varying according to the vintage. Grapes are carefully selected before gentle vinification designed to retain the fruit’s natural character and the wine’s fine acidity.
Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C. Its freshness and layered texture make it a versatile partner for grilled or roasted fish, shellfish, poultry with light sauces, goat’s cheese and Mediterranean dishes featuring herbs and vegetables. No decanting is essential, although 15–30 minutes in a carafe can help reveal more of its aromatic complexity, particularly when served young.
Producer
Founded in the 1970s by Aimé and Véronique Guibert, Mas de Daumas Gassac helped establish the Languedoc as a source of ambitious, age-worthy fine wine. Based near Aniane, the estate gained international recognition for its careful vineyard work, distinctive grape selections and refusal to be defined solely by local appellation conventions. Today, it remains one of the region’s most respected and sought-after producers.
