Mas Belles Eaux, Vieilles Vignes 2022

Mas Belles Eaux Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a characterful red from the hills around Pézenas in western Languedoc, made from fruit grown on the estate’s older vines. This is a robust Syrah and Grenache blend that reflects both the warmth of the region and the estate’s focus on quality site selection and careful vineyard work.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the deep, ripe color you’d expect from a serious Languedoc red. The nose leans toward dark berries, ripe plum, spice and a touch of garrigue, with subtle oak adding polish and complexity. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous, with concentrated fruit, supple tannins and a warm, Mediterranean personality. The oak ageing gives it extra depth and structure, while the old-vine fruit helps keep the finish long and expressive. It should age well over the next few years, gaining more nuance and finesse with time.

Production
The vineyards lie in the gently rolling countryside around Pézenas, in a wooded area influenced by the natural springs that give the estate its name. The old-vine parcels are harvested by hand and go through a strict selection before fermentation. After vinification, the wine is aged for well over a year in oak, adding structure, texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for grilled lamb, roasted beef, game, herb-driven Mediterranean dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour if you want to soften the tannins and open up the aromatics.
